Seminaries: Seminaries are place that people can go to further their theological education. These places help start people off with their work in the ministry. Seminaries help people decide what their specific call is and how they can act upon that. They lean more about God's wonderful works, and how they can take that out into the world and help others. The seminaries in the ELCA are: Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary Seminary Programs for High School Students: Several seminaries have programs that allow high school students to explore God's call in their own lives. To learn and read more about each event click on the words after the paragraph In 2003, the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago inaugurated the Youth in Mission ministry to nurture the faith life of young people and to prepare them for ministry in the world. Through a generous grant of $1.67 million from the Lilly Endowment Inc., Youth in Mission developed two programs and created a Youth Center that is available for retreats and visits to Chicago. Youth in Mission The ministry called Theological Education with Youth (TEY) is a creative initiative of two Lutheran seminaries, the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettsyburg and The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. These seminaries are joining with congregations, youth ministries and synods located primarily in Regions 7 & 8 of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to amplify the faith and witness of totally excellent high school youth. Theological Education with Youth Summer Seminary Sampler is a three week residential program at Trinity Lutheran Seminary for high-school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Each summer participants in both the June and July sessions work on service projects, attend theological classes, shadow mentors, and spend time living in community with one another. Seminary Sampler Wartburg's Youth Leadership School (WYLS) offers high school youth the opportunity to experience the ultimate faith journey as they share in 15 days of adventure, service, study, leading, and worship. WYLS Previews is a youth-focused event for selected high school students and their pastors that helps youth explore their gifts, callings and various ministry opportunities. Previews Thirty high-school youth will stay on the seminary campus to study and discuss basic theological tenets as well as participate in a multicultural immersion experience in the Latino community in Columbia. Through their resident experience from June 20-27, 2009, these 11th and 12th grade students can better understand their Christian faith, theology and doctrine, biblical understanding, church history and heritage, institutional structures, and new cultures. Courses are led by seminary faculty and staff, Lutheran clergy, rostered leaders, Region 9 of the ELCA staff, and seminarians, as well as this year's Bishop in Residence, the Rev. Prospective Student Days Sunday evening through Tuesday lunch of living on campus, meeting professors and seminarians, attending classes, participating in community meals and worship.
